Palm Valley Animal Center & The Laurie P. Andrews PAWS Center offer internships opportunities to undergraduate and graduate candidates interested in a variety of fields. Interns gain hands-on experience while working on challenging projects, networking with professionals and learning from some of the most passionate and hardworking individuals in our industry. The duties and responsibilities of an intern vary by department and assignment.

Available internships are available at both of our locations in Edinburg, TX. Please refer to the following guidelines for submitting your application.

These internships will help interns acquire new skills in their field of interest, give valuable work experience in a 501(c)3 private nonprofit animal welfare organization, and while they work to help find homes for the dogs and cats in Hidalgo County.


SUMMER Semester Internship (May – August)
Priority Deadline: April 15th

FALL Semester Internship (August – December)
Priority Deadline: July 15th

SPRING Semester Internship (January – May)
Priority Deadline: December 15th


– Must be currently enrolled at a college/university, exception for summer internships
– Must be 18 or older
– Complete online Intern Application
– Students must be available for a minimum of 20 hours per week


– At least (1) letter of recommendation from a teacher and/or adviser
– Strong verbal and written skills
– Proficient computer skills
– Bilingual – Spanish/English 
– Comfortable speaking in public

SELECTION Only complete applications will be reviewed. Top applicants will be interviewed by department mentors and committee. If you are selected for our internship program, your orientation information will be emailed to you along with instructions on on-boarding. 

Securing housing and transportation during the internship is the responsibility of the intern, PVAC/PAWS cannot offer support in this area.

ADOPTIONS INTERN: Creative Writing, Community Outreach, Promotions & Sales, Alumni Relations, Mobile Adoption Unit Program and Visitor Relations

COMMUNICATION INTERN: Community Relations, Public Relations, Social Media, Media Relations, and Digital Media

DEVELOPMENT INTERN: Event Planning, Donor Relations, and Staff Development

EDUCATION INTERN: Summer Camps, Educator Outreach, Elementary Student Outreach, Middle School Student Outreach, High School Student Outreach, Tour & Orientations, Scout Outreach, Youth Programming, Adult Programming and Reading Program

FOSTER INTERN: Digital Media, Foster Training/Relations/Recruitment, and Case Management

RESCUE INTERN: Digital Media and Rescue Partner Relations

VOLUNTEER INTERN: Volunteer Training, Relations, and Recruitment
