It’s Hip to Microchip!


Edinburg, TX Edinburg, TX (June 13, 2015) – Palm Valley Animal Center is joining paws with Petco for It’s Hip to Microchip! Our goal is to work together to help microchip 300 hundred pets by offering the service at a reduced price of $12 and the first 75 microchips free of charge. PVAC encourages everyone to join us on Saturday, June 13, 2015 from 9am-12noon at Petco-Edinburg at visit PVAC at 317 E Trenton Rd, Edinburg, TX 78539.

“In a recent study 22 percent of lost dogs that entered an animal shelters were reunited with their families. However, rates for microchipped dogs was over 52 percent that is a 238 percent increase. That trend continues with cats, less than 2 percent of lost cats that entered an animal shelter were reunited with their families, but the rate for microchipped cats was dramatically higher at over 38 percent, that is more than 2000 percent better.” Rebeca I Villanueva, PVAC Director of Development.

Over the past forty years the Palm Valley Animal Center’s Lost & Found Program has tirelessly worked to reunite families with their lost pets and encourage pet owners to use every available tool to safeguard their pets in case they are lost. In 2014, PVAC reunited over 1,400 pets with their loving families and hopes that by increasing awareness of the importance of microchipping.
